Polly's Testimony

‘NetWorthing’ (the concept and practice) has been around since Jesus spoke the following profound words that have lingered through time:

“You shall love your neighbor as yourself” —  Mark 12:31 RSV
“Do to others what you would have them do to you” —  Matthew 7:12 NIV
“For whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” —  Galatians 6:7 RSV

Fast Forward, you will find that these principles have stood the test of time.

I, Polly Harper, believe in these truths and call it ‘NetWorthing’. Over the years, whether at work or at play, I have seen the hand of God through the investments I have made in others. Most of my experiences have been spontaneous acts of pleasure for me. Often, as I see a child admiring a toy in a store, my heart leaps for joy until I can secretly purchase it to offer as an unexpected gift outside the store. I am convinced that the blessing is mostly mine. In the workplace with adults, I find the same joy as I deliver more than required when someone, friend or stranger, makes a request of me.

Current true story: One day I read an article in a tech magazine about the work ethics of an executive. I was touched by his discipline and management style so I called very spontaneously after hours that day and had a 5 or 10 minute conversation. One thing we discussed was his routine employee meeting that day. So … early the next morning I eagerly rushed out to pick up a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts to take to his office. As he passed the desk for his meeting, I introduced myself for the first time and handed him the donuts for his 9:00 a.m. meeting. I can still see the astonished look on his face as we shook hands and went our separate ways. It only seemed like moments since we had hung up the phone. Even I was amazed! Little did I know at the time that he would need our real estate services in 6 months time. He told me to check with him again — which I did on several occasions as I noticed his company ads in different places or when I invited him to community eve nts.

When the real estate need approached he had his CFO call for an interview. By the time the need was there we already had competition for the business with the CFO. My new friend made his decision real easy by saying to the CFO that they would be using Wm. Leonard & Co. What an endorsement and what a blessing! The move is now completed.

Did I call this guy asking for something? No, but I did receive two-fold from the random act of kindness: a real estate client and a memorable heart felt return on my investment.

Therefore, to live my life from one experience like this to another is a life of enrichment and a life of ‘NetWorthing’. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen every day, but I encourage you to begin pouring yourself in others and watch how God comes alive in the experience of ‘NetWorthing’.
